Keeping a steel bracelet bright, season after season
Sweat, sand and perfume are a steel bracelet's daily enemies. A few minutes a month keep it looking new.
Every week: a soft cloth
Wipe the case and bracelet with a dry microfibre cloth. It removes fingerprints and the thin film of sweat that dulls the steel and settles between the links.
Every month: a gentle wash
Only if your watch is water resistant to 5 ATM (50 m) or more, and the crown is pushed fully in: dip a soft toothbrush in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap and brush between the links and under the clasp. Rinse with fresh water and dry with a towel.
Watches rated 3 ATM are splash resistant only: clean them with a barely damp cloth, never under the tap.

Gulf life: sea, pool and perfume
Salt and chlorine attack seals and leave crystals between the links. After the beach or the pool, rinse with fresh water the same day. Spray perfume and oud before you put the watch on, and let it dry; alcohol and oils cloud the finish.
Scratches, storage and service
Polished surfaces can be refreshed with a jeweller's polishing cloth; brushed surfaces should be left to a watchmaker so the grain stays even. Store each watch in its own pouch, away from phones and speakers whose magnets disturb movements.
Have the bracelet pins and the water resistance checked when you change the battery. Montre Original does both for its clients.
